A Very Warm Holiday Valley
We hit the slopes again this weekend at Holiday Valley in New York with Mike and Jen Nappier. We had some interesting ski conditions. On Friday, it was 60 degrees so we didn't even need the long underwear and shells. Riding the lift was more reminiscent of a sky ride at the fair because of the warm weather! Luckily, the conditions hadn't broken down too much on Friday and we got in some good skiing.
Saturday brought more warm temperatures, plus rain and SLUSH. The slopes were a mess so we came in earlier than usual and hung out in town. At one point, it rained so hard they closed the lifts (we were inside, thank goodness!) We also had a scary situation where the girl behind us on the ski lift had a seizure. Her friend held on to her so she didn't fall off the lift when she was unconscious, and the friend was so scared and screaming (I would be too.) It's a terrible feeling to see that happen and be able to do NOTHING because you are on a ski lift however many feet in front of the person. They got the lift stopped at the top and she woke up, and Kevin and Mike helped take her skis off and waited until the Ski Patrol came. We hung around a bit and think she was ok. Still, what an experience.
Sunday Kevin and I went out at 8:45 am and the skiing was good for a few hours. We stopped at Kevin's favorite place, Quaker Steak and Lube, for dinner on the way home. It was a great time overall, and I'm SO sad that ski season is almost over.
